Predictions for Payback (2015)

WWE_Payback_(2015)_PosterWWE Payback 2015 hits our screens tonight (well, if you are willing to pay for it or have the WWE Network…or illegally stream it!) After the mediocre Extreme Rules, Payback needs to give an electric shock to the WWE Universe. The card doesn’t look great, but you never know. It might surprise us! So here are my thoughts and predictions about Payback!

Kick-Off Match: Curtis Axel and Macho Mandow vs The Ascension

My, my, my, how the WWE have dropped the ball with Damien Sandow. They ruined his break-up with The Miz. They continue to botch his character. His imitation of The Miz provided entertainment every week. His imitation of the ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage is lame. Curtis Axel is just boring. The Ascension have never looked anything more than average since leaving NXT. As for this match, no wonder it is on the Kick-Off show. The best option for The Ascension is for them to go back to NXT.

PREDICTED WINNERS: Curtis Axel and Macho Mandow

The New Day (c) vs Tyson Kidd and Cesaro 2 out of 3 Falls for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Their match at Extreme Rules was very entertaining and had a surprising finish. I didn’t expect The New Day to win the titles. However, their heel turn has done wonders for them. This rematch will be another very good match, but I can’t see The New Day losing after only winning the titles last month. With some screwiness involved, The New Day will retain.

Naomi and Tamina vs The Bella Twins

Why isn’t the Diva’s Championship on the line? This tag team match feels like it should be on a Raw rather than a PPV. Unless, of course, the Bella Twins are heading for splitsville. In which case Naomi and Tamina will win the bout due to miscommunication between the twins. Then we will have a Bella feud…Good things or bad thing? I’m not sure.

King Barrett vs Neville

An NXT talent that hasn’t floundered in WWE? Neville is so good in the ring, that even in a five minute match he can showcase more moves that most of WWE’s main event roster. Apart from the silly name change, Neville has been handled rather well in his transition from NXT to WWE. Barrett, on the other hand, is given trinkets and quickly forgotten about. Case in point: his Intercontinental Championship run. Will his King of the Ring title suffer the same fate? I think that Barrett has to win this one, if the King of the Ring is to mean anything.

Sheamus vs Dolph Ziggler

From a Kiss Me Arse match to a normal match? Oh, okay then. Sheamus lost that one, but managed to make Ziggler kiss his arse anyway. Why have Sheamus lose anyway? Sheamus has to win this one if his heel turn is to be anything close to a success. As for Ziggler, didn’t he defeat Rollins at Survivor Series to get rid of The Authority? How the might have fallen…

Ryback vs Bray Wyatt

All of Wyatt’s mysterious promos were directed at Ryback? Not at a wrestler of a higher standing? Randy Orton, perhaps? No. After facing The Undertaker, this is the best WWE can do with Wyatt? I have déjà vu here. Wyatt’s losses to John Cena last year left him in the wilderness. He must win here (with interference from Harper and Rowan? A Wyatt family reunion would be the best thing for all three wrestlers). Ryback must suffer another loss, I’m afraid.

John Cena (c) vs Rusev: I Quit Match for the United States Championship

Will it be three straight losses to Cena on PPV for Rusev? I fear so. Cena won their rubber match at Extreme Rules in a poor match. Their first two matches were very good, but the chain stipulation constrained them both. No doubt, the I Quit match will be entertaining. But what does another loss to Cena mean for Rusev? He should have moved on from Cena after last month’s loss. Cena should be given a fresh feud and stop the Open Invitational on every Raw. Will Rusev been seen as a serious contender after three losses in a row? How can he be rebuilt after that? I don’t know, but I’m 90% sure he will lose to Cena. A win would mean that their endless feud continues…

Seth Rollins (c) vs Roman Reigns vs Randy Orton vs Dean Ambrose for the WWE Heavyweight Championship (If Rollins loses, Kane is Fired)

Match of the night? I am sure it will be. Reigns has significantly improved since his return. Rollins and Orton are among the cream of the crop in wrestling quality. Ambrose is not far behind. However, it felt like Ambrose was tacked on in a random twist. Ambrose, like many other mid-carders, has been lost in the shuffle. His peak in popularity came with his feud against Rollins last year. His first singles win on PPV came last month at Extreme Rules. That’s a big losing streak!!!! However, his addition has heightened the excitement for this match. Of course, the Kane stipulation is an annoyance (as was his position in the main event at Extreme Rules). I’d love for Rollins to lose, if only for Kane to get fired (but, as it is WWE, the ‘fired’ stipulation is usually over-turned with a couple of weeks). But Rollins will win this match. Orton doesn’t need the title, and it’s too soon for Reigns and Ambrose.
