Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn, Tyler Breeze and Tyson Kidd all in one match? Why, that would be a dream match! Sure enough, it happened at NXT: Fatal 4 Way. And sure enough, it was a brilliant bout. It encapsulated everything good and righteous about NXT. High-flying, risk-taking, blink and you’ll miss it action, dramatic near falls, awesome quadruple manoeuvres…this match may be one of the greatest fatal four way matches I have ever seen!
Each wrestler had a shining moment or three in the ring. Breeze had a flurry of Beauty Shots and superkicks. Kidd hit a leg drop on Zayn, who was hanging on the middle rope. Neville executed a shooting star press on Zayn, making sure his knees struck Kidd in the process. Zayn hit an exploder suplex on Kidd, followed by a suicide dive into Neville, followed by his unique ‘through the middle and bottom rope DDT on the outside’ on Kidd (I’m not sure of the proper name for it!). In the biggest spot of the match, Zayn powerbombed Breeze and Kidd off the top rope, who in turn superplexed Neville. To steal a name, the entire match was total non-stop action.
There are matches that have come to define NXT, such as the 2/3 Falls Match between Cesaro and Zayn, or the Women’s NXT Championship Match between Natalya and Charlotte. This fatal four way match is one of these matches. If you haven’t watched NXT before, it’s hard to even write a Top 10 list of matches, such is the quality of wrestling on the show. But this would even be in the Top 5. Added bonus: Zayn uses Breeze’s mobile phone to take a selfie!
VERDICT: 9/10. A match deserving of a higher place. Beautiful to watch, it’s almost like ballet in the ring. The best fatal four way match in WWE history (let alone NXT history?). Possibly!
