Predictions: WWE Extreme Rules (22.5.2016)

extreme rules 2016Extreme Rules (Or Payback Rematches) is on tonight. We saw many of these matches at Payback. But Payback was a quality PPV, and there’s no reason why this one shouldn’t be as well. So here are my predictions…

Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin (No DQ Match)

Surely this is Corbin’s match to win? I was shocked when Ziggler won at the Payback Pre-Show. He’s beat Ziggler since, so this is their rubber match. One would think that the goal here is to give Corbin the victory in his first main roster feud. If Ziggler wins, what is the point?

Kalisto(c) vs Rusev (United States Championship Match)

This one could go either way, but does anyone care? Kalisto has been short-changed as US Champion. His interminable feud with Ryback is a case in point. For the sake of a prediction, I’m going with Kalisto to retain. Rusev is a shadow of his former self. I’d much rather see Kalisto as champion than Rusev.

The New Day (c) vs The Vaudevillains (WWE Tag Team Championship Match)

Now, this is a tough one to call! Do The New Day need the titles anymore? They’ve had them for ages, and are over with or without them. Seeing them chase the titles would be something a little different. However, will a returning Enzo Amore cause The Vaudevillains to lose the match? Will he seek revenge for his very real injury at Payback? I think it’s too early for The Vaudevillains to win the titles. They’re still a bland tag team and giving them the belts won’t stop that. The New Day win, thanks to the help of Enzo and Colin Cassady…

The Usos vs Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows (Tornado Tag Team Match)

Anderson and Gallows have to win this match. Since their debut, they’ve been fed to Roman Reigns as fodder in Reigns’ feud with AJ Styles. The Usos are literally only in this match due to their familial ties. They are duller than The Vaudevillains. With this victory under their belts, Anderson and Gallows could go on to face The New Day for the titles…

PREDICTED WINNERS: Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows

Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho (Asylum Match)

A cage match with weapons on the sides? Let’s hope Ambrose and Jericho put on a more entertaining match than they did at Payback. Let’s hope that Ambrose performs like he deserves to be in the upper mid card. I’d put my money on Ambrose winning, but Jericho’s surprise victory at WrestleMania has made me wary of a booking swerve turn. Will Jericho win, just for the sake of him winning? Jericho doesn’t need any victories anymore, but that doesn’t stop him from getting them. But a Jericho victory would mean that the two wrestlers have a victory apiece, meaning that we could have a rubber match…and I don’t want that! So I’m going with Ambrose…

The Miz (c) vs Kevin Owens vs Cesaro vs Sami Zayn (Intercontinental Championship Match)

I have no idea who will win this match! Considering Miz was given the title and is running with it, I’d choose him for the victor. However, an IC title would look great on Cesaro or Zayn. Owens doesn’t need it; he’s had his time with the title and now needs to look towards the main event. So I can count him out. Even so, that leaves me with three other wrestlers to choose from! Let’s assume that Owens and Zayn will keep on feuding. That could eliminate them both from this match, maybe by brawling into the crowd as the victor gets the pin. So that leaves The Miz and Cesaro. If Cesaro wasn’t going to be given the victory at Payback, I doubt they’ll give him it tonight. So that leaves The Miz…

Charlotte (c) vs Natalya (Submissions Match for the Women’s Championship)

I cannot see Natalya winning this match. She’s been shoved into the championship picture without any build, while Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Paige have been pushed to the sidelines. It will be their time after Charlotte beats Natalya tonight. Charlotte needs a worthy competitor to take the title off her, and while Natalya is very good, she doesn’t have the crowd support. She is just another woman for Charlotte to beat.

Roman Reigns (c) vs AJ Styles (Extreme Rules Match for the WWE Championship)

There’s no way that Styles is walking out with the title tonight, is there? Like Natalya, Styles is just there to be beaten. Reigns has a date with John Cena for the championship at some point in the future. Anyone he faces before then is doomed to be beaten. Styles will be dropped into the mid card after tonight. Reigns will enter a new feud for the championship.

Great post 🙂 Personally, I think Chris Jericho has a 50/50 percent chance of winning, but then again, that is just me 🙂 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂
