Let’s face it: Money in the Bank is usually more entertaining than Summerslam! It’s given us amazing matches in the past (and not just the Money in the Bank match). However, this one looks like a card of two halves. The first half is a stack of matches that no one cares about. However, we have the tag team titles at stake in a Fatal 4-Way match, the WWE Championship on the line, the titular MITB match, and AJ Styles vs John Cena…all four have potential to be matches of the year!
Apollo Crews vs Sheamus
I’d forgotten that Apollo Crews had been called up to the main roster! WWE could have capitalised on Sheamus’ Hollywood fame after he starred in the new Ninja Turtles movie, but they didn’t. Does anyone care about this match? I certainly don’t! But Crews needs a win, if only to give him a modicum of momentum (he did lose to Jericho, after all!).
PREDICTED WINNER: Apollo Crews
Dolph Ziggler vs Baron Corbin
Will this feud never end? How many times have they fought since Corbin was called up from NXT? The answer: too many! Surely Corbin needs to win this match to (hopefully) end this feud? Another question: why is this a normal match? They had a No DQ match at Extreme Rules. Surely they need another gimmick match to officially end the film? And Corbin needs the victory!
PREDICTED WINNER: Baron Corbin
Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs Natalya and Becky Lynch
Another match that I could not care less about! The feud between Charlotte and Natalya died before their match at Extreme Rules. Let’s be honest: this tag team match should have been on Raw. Brooke still can’t wrestle, and I thought Becky Lynch had left after WrestleMania! I reckon Charlotte and Brooke will win.
PREDICTED WINNER: Charlotte and Dana Brooke
Rusev (c) vs Titus O’Neill (United States Championship Match)
Yet another match I could not care less about. The U.S Championship should have been retired months ago, but they will need a mid-card title for Smackdown after the brand split (an awful idea, the split, but now’s not the time to talk about that!). And Titus O’Neill in the title picture? Is this some sort of joke? Rusev will squash him.
PREDICTED WINNER: Rusev
Will The New Day finally lose the titles? It is hard to say! Gallows and Anderson are my personal favourites to win the match. If The New Day were to lose, they wouldn’t lose to the babyfaces Amore and Cass. They’d lose to heels. And The Vaudevillains are nowhere near ready to hold the titles. Giving the titles to members of The Club would only further their prestige. The New Day don’t really need the titles anymore. And they’d be great chasing their titles back!
PREDICTED WINNERS: Gallows and Anderson
Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn vs Chris Jericho vs Cesaro vs Dean Ambrose vs Alberto Del Rio (Money in the Bank Ladder Match)
Purely because it makes no sense at all, I am tempted to go with Alberto Del Rio. Zack Ryder winning that ladder match at ‘Mania made me question all of my logical WWE predictions! A victory for Del Rio would make no sense at all. And he’s already won it once! Count Jericho out as well. In my mind, there’s only one contender: Kevin Owens. Reigns lacks top class heels as opponents in the coming months (especially after the brand split). Owens, although he’d only be fed to Reigns, is the perfect choice. Not only that, but he truly deserves it! I’ve heard rumours that Ambrose will win it, but I doubt they’ll come true. Unless he turns heel and cashes in on Reigns…But no! I’m sticking with Owens.
PREDICTED WINNER: Kevin Owens
John Cena vs AJ Styles
Is this really a dream match fifteen years in the making? That’s for you to decide! I’m excited for this match. Styles is a versatile performer and brings out the best in people. Cena is capable of great matches, as he exhibited last year. This should be the match of the night. But who will win the dream match? I’m loathe to say it, but I’d put my money on John Cena. Yes, it makes sense to give Styles the victory. After his heel turn, he needs a big victory to sustain his momentum. But when has logic ever made sense in the booking of John Cena? And, let’s face it, even if Styles did win this match, Cena will win the overall feud. They’ll have a few more matches, but I’m guessing Cena will win this one.
PREDICTED WINNER: John Cena
Roman Reigns (c) vs Seth Rollins (WWE Championship Match)
Reigns to win. It’s as simple as that! Reigns is going to have a lengthy title reign, beyond Summerslam possibly. Rollins is just another heel to feed to Reigns. There’ll be a lack of drama around any title match involving Reigns for the foreseeable future…
PREDICTED WINNER: Roman Reigns
