2. Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns (Universal Championship Match, WrestleMania 34)

Along with Austin/The Rock and Cena/Rock, Lesnar/Reigns were only the third pair of wrestlers to main event WrestleMania. Of course, this Sunday, Lesnar and Reigns are going to be the only wrestlers to main event ‘Mania for a third time! Yesterday, I reviewed their first bout, at WrestleMania 31. And it was…distinctly average! Could their rematch top that mediocrity?

Well…no. That match was saved by Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank title shot. That’s all people will ever remember that bout for. To be honest, I forgot all about their second ‘Mania main event. And for good reason. This is the same story as the first, all about Reigns being battered from pillar to post for ten/fifteen minutes before making a heroic comeback. And boy, does he get suplexed…a lot. In the ring, outside the ring, on the announcer’s table (what was that spot? Lesnar looks like he’s to going to belly-to back suplex Reigns onto an announcer’s table…but Reigns ends up face-planting the announce table! A botch? A planned spot? We’ll never know). It’s a typical Lesnar match…once again!

However, in their first bout, the crowd cheered the heel Lesnar, and booed the babyface Reigns. Here, they simply didn’t react at all. Not to Lesnar, not to Reigns. There are ‘CM Punk’ chants, ‘boring’ chants, but few chants for either wrestler. Few people wanted this as the ‘Mania main event (for the first time around, let alone the second time), and it shows. Reigns is battered here, absolutely battered, and no one cares! When he rallies, the crowd should be rooting for him…but nothing here.

Maybe with a greater crowd reaction, this match would be at least as watchable as their first bout. Sometimes, you can look past an indifferent crowd and appreciate the wrestlers going hell for leather. Here, the action is just dull. There’s even blood at the end, in an attempt to revitalise the crowd (and the match)…but it fails. Surprisingly, their first bout was better than this, and that was merely mediocre. Let’s hope their third effort is a worthy ‘Mania main event…
