13. Edge vs The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell, Summerslam 2008)

Yet another underrated entry in an underrated feud? You think HIAC, you think HBK/Taker, Taker/Mankind, HHH/Batista, even Banks/Bayley. But Edge/Taker? Much like their TLC bout the previous month, I think it’s remembered more for the closing high spot rather than anything else (that actually takes place after the match has ended!). However, it’s as gruelling and brutal (but not bloody) as those more famous HIAC bouts, even if it turns into a TLC bout inside the Cell as the match goes on.

12. Edge vs The Undertaker (TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Championship, One Night Stand 2008)

Edge’s name is synonymous with the TLC gimmick. From the first ever TLC bout, Edge has put his unique stamp on the gimmick bout. However, could you really imagine The Undertaker in a TLC bout? Yes, you can imagine him in a Hell in a Cell…but a match involving ladders? Okay, so he had that great Ladder match against Jeff Hardy on a Raw twenty years ago…but apart from that one, ‘Taker doesn’t seem a good fit for the high spot, high risk bout. However, ‘Taker rose to the challenge, and the two created a TLC bout that must be included in any Top 10 TLC list!

11. Edge vs The Undertaker (c) (World Heavyweight Championship, Judgment Day 2008)

I’d forgotten about this third straight singles match between Edge and Undertaker! Their ‘Mania, TLC and Hell in a Cell bouts are fresh in my mind, but I’d forgotten about the lacklustre Backlash bout and this re-rematch…and this is more like it! After that forgettable Backlash rematch, the two were given one last chance to shine in a non-gimmick bout before colliding in a TLC and a HIAC match. Apart from the awful finish to this bout (and the proceeding screwiness from Vickie Guerrero, Smackdown General Manager and Edge’s squeeze…the less said about the screwiness, the better!), this is close to the greatness of their ‘Mania match.

10. Edge vs The Undertaker (c) (World Heavyweight Championship, Backlash 2008)

The second match of a lengthy feud between Edge and ‘Taker had a lot to live up to in terms of quality. I remember waiting with baited breath for this rematch after their ‘Mania stunner…and it fell flat. A plodding, almost lifeless repeat of their ‘Mania bout, this struggled to keep my interest the first time around. And upon a re-watch, it failed again to retain my interest. Both competitors were on fire in 2008, near/at their respective career peaks. I appreciate that living up to their previous bout was nigh on impossible (an impossibility that tarnished even ‘Taker’s rematch with HBK at WMXXVI). But I expected so much more…

9. Edge (c) vs The Undertaker (World Heavyweight Championship, WrestleMania XXIV)

The Undertaker has finally entered the WWE Hall of Fame. He’s had feuds with almost every WWE Superstar you can name…but I think one of his most underrated feuds is with Edge. And is this the most underrated WrestleMania match ever? It’s rarely brought up when talking about ‘Mania main events (while the plaudits of the ‘Mania XII Iron Man math are brought up all the time!). I was going to write that this one is mostly forgotten…but it’s appeared on ‘The Best of WrestleMania Main Events’ program on the WWE Network. Not sure how long it’s been on there, but I’ve only just noticed it! So maybe it isn’t as underrated as I thought…
