HAMMY’S TOP 10…SCIENCE FICTION FILMS

Last week, 2001: A Space Odyssey was released in cinemas to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Some regard it as the best science fiction film of all time. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see it on the big screen, thanks to the stupid cinemas in my area stupidly not showing it. Hopefully I’ll be alive when the film is rereleased for its 75th anniversary! My fiancee asked: “why don’t you just watch it on DVD?” Sigh, she’ll never understand…but back to my original point. What are the best science fiction films of all time? I love science fiction (an ex-girlfriend once referred to me as a sci-fi geek!). There are so many that I literally couldn’t limit my list to 10 choices…but I’ve tried my best. As usual, I’m only going to limit myself to one film per franchise/director. It makes the choices (a little) easier! Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…DIRECTORS

I follow @NextBestPicture on Twitter, and he’s recently started a discussion about people’s top ten favourite directors. Apparently, it was spurred on by Christopher Nolan’s claim that Stanley Kubrick is the greatest director of all time. In classic SATC fashion, it got me to thinking…who are my top ten directors? What does one base that decision on? Favourite films, overall filmography quality, influence in cinema history, innovation…the list could go on. I’ve tried to include all of these things in my reasoning. So here we go… Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…WORST WRESTLEMANIA MATCHES

It’s hard to pick out the Top 10 Worst WrestleMania matches. The early WrestleManias are chockful of terrible matches. Back then, it was all about the entertainment and spectacle, not about the wrestling. It’s a big reason why I rarely go back and watch 1980s/early 1990s WWE. That’s a warning: you won’t be seeing many matches from the early WrestleManias on this list. Some of them probably outweigh matches on this list in atrociousness, and I’ll be happy to hear your thoughts. But bearing that in mind, here are my Top 10 Worst WrestleMania Matches! Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…WORST WRESTLEMANIA MAIN EVENTS

Earlier on this week, I published a list of my Top 10 WrestleMania Main Events (click here to view it!). It’s WrestleMania 34 week, remember! In the interest of fairness, I thought about the worst  WrestleMania main events. There’s plenty to choose from, aren’t there? Hulk Hogan and HHH are the worst offenders when it comes to terrible ‘Mania main events, but there are other offenders who have stunk up what should be the biggest WWE match of the year. So here are my Top 10 Worst WrestleMania Main Events. Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…WRESTLEMANIA MAIN EVENTS

It’s WrestleMania 34 this coming Sunday…so I have to do a WrestleMania-related Top 10, don’t I? I’ve already done a Top 10 Best WrestleMania Matches List (click here to view it!), and did think about doing a Top 10 Worst WrestleMania Matches List. But that would involve watching early WrestleManias, something I cannot tolerate! So I decided to change tack a little and examine WrestleMania main events. Of course, the early Mania main events (apart from one) involving Hulk Hogan can be discounted. But the modern era has more than made up for Hogan’s dismal wrestling. So here are my Top 10 WrestleMania Main Events! Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…STEVEN SPIELBERG FILMS

Steven Spielberg is back, baby! Yes, I suppose he did come back with The Post, but he’s going back to his blockbuster roots with Ready Player One this week. Does anyone do a special-effects heavy blockbuster with a heart better than Spielberg? Probably not. Is there a director better than Spielberg? That’s a question I can’t answer here. But Spielberg’s hit more homeruns that he’s struck out, and his homeruns are some of the best films of all time. In that spirit of thinking, here are my Top 10 Steven Spielberg Films! Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…DANIEL BRYAN MATCHES

(Sorry about the lack of posts recently. A family bereavement, marriage preparation and other events have taken precedence).

So, it’s WrestleMania season…but all everyone is talking about is Daniel Bryan! Yes, the Yes Man has been medically cleared to wrestle! The dream matches are innumerable. He even took an (unnecessary) dangerous apron powerbomb from Kevin Owens on last night’s edition of Smackdown Live. Obviously, he’s heading towards a WrestleMania confrontation with Owens/Sami Zayn. But never mind that…I’ve not been this excited about someone’s return for…a bloody long time! Yes, Daniel Bryan stole my heart all those years ago. He stole our hearts by being an underdog…but also by being a bloody great wrestler! So here are my Top 10 Daniel Bryan matches… Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…FILMS OF 2008

Guess what? 2008 was ten years ago? Just think, we were still in the clutches of the credit crunch, alot of people were being made unemployed/losing their house, and Gordon Brown was attempting to run Britain. But on the bright side, George Bush couldn’t be in the White House ever again! Most importantly, 2008 was a pretty good year for films! We needed the distraction of the cinema a lot back then! To be fair, we need any distraction we can get nowadays…But on a serious note, 2008 was packed full of great films. And here are my Top 10 Films of 2008… Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…FILMS OVER THREE HOURS

Last week, I posted a list of my Top 10 Films Under 90 Minutes (click here to view the list!). It got me to thinking…in the interest of fairness (and I’m all about fairness and justice), what about the other end of the spectrum? What about those bum-numbing films? Those films over three hours? I think any film over two hours is pushing its luck, but over three hours? It has to be a pretty special film to be over three hours AND keep you entertained. After some hardcore thinking, I came up with a list of Top 10 Films Over Three Hours! Here it is… Continue reading

HAMMY’S TOP 10…FILMS UNDER 90 MINUTES

I recently read that the Doomsday Clock is at 2 minutes to midnight. We are that much closer to destruction, thanks to Trump! Isn’t it hard to find time without being pressured by knowing that the world could end at any second? I have so many films to watch! It’s not just about finding time; it’s about finding the right amount of time. Say I want to watch Gone With The Wind (on the to-watch list!). I’d have to put a sixth of a day’s worth of time aside to watch it! There’s only two minutes to midnight, for goodness sake! I can’t be watching Gone With The Wind! The lack of time makes deciding which film to watch very difficult. So it got me to thinking…what about those films that clock in under an hour and a half? After some serious thought, I decided upon ten films to watch if you’re struggling to decide on a film but have less than an hour and a half to spare (and are also concerned about the Doomsday Clock). Continue reading
